We’ve been going to the Allen Public Library for an entire year now and I just discovered they have music cds for kids. Ridiculous, right? Outside of a few Baby Einstein albums and the occasional Raffi reference, we rarely listened to kid music. I probably would never had considered it until I caught my 5 year old singing all the words to Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream.  Awkward.

I began flipping through the cases and found Snack Time by the Bare Naked Ladies. This album is as old as Ky but it’s the Bare Naked Ladies! How can it possibly be wrong? I brought it up to the counter and checked out.

The album begins with 7, 8, 9. A song inspired by one of Ky’s favorite jokes. Why was 6 afraid of 7? It’s extremely catchy and the kids laughed the whole way through it.

The next song, The Ninjas sounded so similar to the BNL songs I was rocking out to in highschool, I couldn’t help but love it. “The ninjas and deadly and silent. There’s also unspeakably violent. They speak Japanese. They do whatever they please and sometimes they vacation in Ireland.” Rock on.

There is one song the kids will ask me to skip over and that is Vegetable Town. It’s a very imaginative song about life in a town made out of vegetables. While it’s incredibly well done, the kids seem to think it’s a parenting ploy for greater nutrition. I think they should just be thankful it’s not a song about adding spinach to your brownies.

The truly remarkable thing about this album, is that I didn’t feel the compulsion to skip songs. Snack Time is what I’m listening to and I highly recommend it!

I then decided if I had to be a housewife, I was going to have to get good at it. As time went by, I began to see this as my time for doing all the things I had ever wanted to do and the kids were coming along for the ride.
